Our Experiment

My wife and I have always felt that we have some individual responsibility for our environment and that we are somewhat culpable by our own actions to the stresses that humans place on the planet. We have taken steps to decrease our individual contributions to pollution, but never radical steps.

We have always been opposed to offshore oil drilling, at least off the coast of Florida, our state. The recent BP/Transocean/Halliburton spill in the Gulf of Mexico has sickened us. We grew up in North Florida, spending many family vacations on the Panhandle Beaches, the beaches that are now starting to see oil wash ashore (See photo from Thanksgiving a few years ago). I have been scuba diving in many areas off of the Panhandle Shores. It really is a disaster to think of how these areas will ultimately be effected. This disaster has inspired this blog.

We not only wish to decrease our use of oil, but to strive for an overall better, more environmentally sustainable lifestyle. We wish to change our lifestyle, not so quickly that it is like a fad that we quickly forget about and go back to our old habits. Rather, we wish to change in an intentional, reasonable, and informed way. I intend to use this blog to discuss the process of reaching that more sustainable lifestyle, our inspirations for doing this, the effects it has on us, areas that we find success, and areas that we do not.
